CHILDREN

CHILDREN ARE CHERISHED

You might hear us refer to ourselves as the “church with the children in the middle.” This is not just because of the physical location of the playground between the two of the wings of our building. It is a testament to our children being our church's life, energy, and future.

FAITH FORMATION

Children are fully integrated into worship. We welcome their joyful noise and exuberant presence in the life of the church. Each Sunday, we offer a Children’s Chapel lesson to support our children in the earliest stages of their walk with Christ.

QUESTIONS?

Contact Rev. Terry Hamilton-Poore via email (thamiltonpoore@fpcbham.org).

YOUTH

Our youth represent not only the future of our church community but also the present. Our youth often collect the offering, read scripture during worship, and serve on the Session (the governing body of our church).

YOUTH GROUP (byg)

Our youth are part of a combined youth group called BYG (Birmingham Youth Group): a partnership between the youth groups from Edgewood, Southminster, Oakmont Chapel, and other area PC(USA) churches. BYG meets weekly (on Sunday evenings from 4–6pm) for food, fellowship, and fun! The location for BYG meetings changes periodically, with most meetings taking place either at Edgewood (in Homewood) or Southminster (in Vestavia Hills). For all questions regarding BYG, please email Peyton Chandler (pchandler@fpcbham.org).

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Our high school students travel each summer for the Montreat Youth Conference in Montreat, North Carolina. Middle School students go to the Montreat Middle School Conference at Maryville College in Tennessee. Our youth also attend local Presbytery retreats, serve on the Presbytery Youth Council, and have mission experiences.
