THE COLUMBARIUM AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Where is the Columbarium located?

The Columbarium is in the Chapel on the 4th Avenue wall.  The niche structure is housed in an oak cabinet which incorporates architectural details of the existing features in the Chapel.  This location provides a secure and sacred space for loved ones and visitors. Although outdoor locations are popular in many churches, in our case the general lack of outdoor space, the Child Development Center’s use of the courtyard, and landscaping and maintenance concerns present a challenge, making an indoor location more practical and cost effective.

How many niches are available?

The Columbarium has 54 niches, each of which can hold either one or two urns containing cremated remains.  This allows for a total capacity of 108 urns.  The cabinet is designed for future expansion and has sections which have been prepared to hold additional niches as needed.

What is the cost to purchase a niche?  What is included in the cost?

Each niche can hold two urns.  The cost is $1500 for a single capacity and $1800 for a double capacity.  This price includes an engraved granite faceplate and two brushed brass urns which are designed to fit in the niches.  The cost of cremation is not included and will be the responsibility of the family.

How can I purchase a niche?

Download a Columbarium packet, which includes a niche order form, the Columbarium Policy, and a diagram of the niches.  You may also request that a packet be mailed to you by calling the church office or by emailing Columbarium.

Who may be inurned in the Columbarium?

Inurnment in the Columbarium is limited to the cremated remains of any member, former member, clergy, or former clergy of First Presbyterian Church, and immediate family members of members, former members, clergy, or former clergy of FPC.  Requests for the inurnment of others may be honored if recommended by the Columbarium committee and approved by the Session.

Who built and installed the Columbarium?

Homecoming, Inc. Columbarium Systems, Products & Services of Scottsdale, Arizona manufactured the Columbarium framework and will provide the urns and engraved granite faceplates.   Mike Ross Construction, a local contractor and custom cabinet maker, designed and built the cabinet and installed the Columbarium.

What about church family who may not wish to be cremated, may have family members already buried, or who wish to be buried somewhere else, but want to be memorialized at FPC?

The Columbarium committee is investigating options for a memorial plaque to be placed in the Chapel.
